PRLog (Press Release)– Jun 29, 2011– In "Metaphorically cadillac speaking", Tony Villejo, the creator of our river boat floats for the San Antonio River Parades is exhibiting his newest art work at Bismarck Studios Contemporary Art Gallery from the 14th of July to the 9th of August. The San Antonio native and much loved artist is showing his paintings, vivid water color drawi bmw ngs, and life size sculptures depicting the human figure.
"Spontaneity in art is nonexistent as far as i'm concerned. It's simply the festering of ideas that have finally gained a vehicle to manifest themselves. The idea's final resting place. The focus always seems to rely on the ambiguity of day to day situations presented in more of an allegorical motif. limited by craft, and of course, economics, the product reveals itself, hopefully. As for the metaphors at hand, the work merely dabbles in the v chevrolet erses of the human spirit, good or bad" - Tony Villejo
Tony Villejo, the well established and much admired San Antonio native, was one of the first artists who set up their studios at Blue Star Art Space in 1986. He was also chosen as one of the artists to participate at ArtPace, an internationally known foundation in support of the arts established by the late Linda Pace.
He is well known for his portraits and figures in welded steel, his abstract paintings and often lyrical drawings, but underlying all of them is a social commentary from his keen observations of the world around him.
Not entirely known is that Tony Villejo creates and builds parade floats that have for years delighted thousands audi and thousands of parade lovers in the streets and on television screens.
In a recent interview with Gene Elder, Tony Villejo explained about his "floats"…" Objects were welded, carved, painted, motorized, it ran the whole gamut, not to mention the scale of the constructions. And yes, I must admit that finally these things were all destined to slowly roll down the avenue for the enjoyment of the masses. At times I had often wondered just what I was doing there. I had to keep reminding myself of a bit of advice given to me by an artist whom I deeply respected. And that was: "Try to diversify your experience with the materials and techniques and how you work with them and their possibilities as much as possible. So that when you decide to make art, forget 1086274749 everything that you've learned because then at that point the media in which you need to put forth an idea will simply manifest itself."
In his upcoming show, titled Metaphorically Speaking, we will get to experience the manifestation of his newest ideas in the media of acrylic paintings on panel, watercolor drawings, and human figures sculpted from various materials.
Reception: July 14th 7-10pm Open and free to the public
